The character for Virtue (pinyin: Dé, Wades-Giles: Te), can also be translated as Morality, Ethics, Moral Power, Upright, etc. The ideogram implies that humans must comply with the laws of God to be virtuous. The concept is a bit like "karma", but virtue has immediate payback where karma is delayed.
